little sister planet of uranus

EVERYONE LOVES IT WHEN PLANETS ARE PEOPLE!!! this is obvi the sideways friend of our solar system, uranus. uranus is one of my faves bc it is SIDEWAYS!!! it is literally the coolest planet LITERALLY, except for pluto and the other trans-neptunian guys. all of its moons are named after SHAKESPEARE CHARACTERS—I chose to represent them as butterflies and here you can see oberon, titania, ariel, and miranda, going clockwise from the top. miranda is super lumpy and misshapen and it is a SPACE MYSTERY as to why!! 

in astrology uranus stands for queerness and gender variance as well as anything that is charming and offbeat, mostly because it is sideways and uranus as a god is kind of bullshit. uranus is the romanization of ouranos, who was not worshipped much by the time of the romans and didn’t really have many associative qualities, besides the sky (which he was).

the reason it has this terrible name is kind of a long story. basically the guy who discovered it decided to be a douche and name it king george (III)’s star. this obvi pissed off every other country? eventually one of  the guys who confirmed it was a planet decided to call it uranus, since it was the planet after saturn and so should be named after saturn’s dad, bc saturn was jupiter’s dad and saturn came after jupiter. so now all anyone knows about this planet is that it has a name that sounds like your anus. even though it is SIDEWAYS, extremely cold, full of potential space ship fuel, and weirdly solid looking. thanx nineteenth century astrologers!!! clearly they realized their mistake since they named the next planet they found neptune, on account of it was blue.
